HUBba Kabar? If you feel 2022 flew by quickly, you’re not alone! We agree!! It simply evaporated!
And what an unforgettable year it has been!! The year started on a positive note, riding on the tail-end of the pandemic as more people got vaccinated. Holiday Travel 2021 even saw an uptick, with global travel returning with a vengeance. However, by February 2022 everything changed abruptly with the Omicron COVID-19 Variant spreading around the world, halting the short-lived news of the subsiding pandemic and economic recovery.
If things couldn’t get any worse, on 23 February, the world woke up to shocking news that Russia invaded neighboring Ukraine and declared war. The War saw millions of Ukrainians fleeing the country, inflicting the biggest humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War 2. Global sanctions followed, imposed by EU countries against Russia, as the war raged on. An unraveling of compounded, globally-linked problems, triggered by oil and gas prices reaching record highs, causing inflationary pressures everywhere.
September saw the death of the world’s most famous monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. Followed by tragedies at Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang, Indonesia, killing 135, and the Itaewon Halloween stampede that crushed 158 people in Seoul, South Korea, in October. Natural disasters around the world claimed 1,000s. From earthquakes in Afghanistan and Indonesia; Floods in Pakistan, and Forest Fires in Europe, to deadly Winter Storms and Hurricanes in North America.
Thankfully 2022 wasn’t all doom and gloom. The year also saw Indonesia host the G20 holding Presidency of the prestigious global club for the first time. And hosted various important meetings throughout 2022, culminating with the G20 Meeting for 20 Heads of State in Bali, in November. Countries came together to take action toward achieving the world’s collective climate goals as agreed under the Paris Agreement and the Convention.
So how do you stay focused on positive impact against all the negativity we’ve seen in 2022? We use the following ingredients; a. We stay positive; b. We stay connected with our Communities and Impact Hub Families from our global network; and 3. We collaborate our way out of any challenge.
As we close 2022, we do so with the right intention, entering 2023 with new hope and energy to do better, go farther, and connect with more communities who share the same mission of doing good. This is the only way to survive and grow our business.
